William Upski Wimsatt is coming to St. Louis in support of his new book Please Don’t Bomb the Suburbs: A Midterm Report on My Generation and the Future of Our Super Movement in which he weaves a first-person tour of America’s cultural and political movements from 1985–2010.  The reading and book signing will take place at The Regional Arts Commission, 6128 Delmar Blvd In the Loop on Wednesday,  September 15, at 7pm, and will also include live art and music by the participants of Screwed Again, a collaborative graphic and installation mural that opened on August 13^th in RAC’s gallery.  This event will take place the evening before the Screwed Againgallery talk.

As a potty-mouthed graffiti writer from the South Side of Chicago, William Upski Wimsatt electrified the literary and hip-hop world with two of the most successful underground classic books in a generation, Bomb the Suburbs and No more Prisons.

A maverick graffiti artist, journalist, and political and philanthropic organizer, Wimsatt has appeared in dozens of publications and is a popular speaker at colleges and conferences. He founded the League of Young Voters—a passionate group of political activists involved in getting young people engaged in the political process, and co-organized the first-ever briefing of social justice artists with the White House.  He was honored as a “visionary” by Utne Reader and included in The Source’s “Power 30″ list.

Wimsatt’s book tour for Please Don’t Bomb the Suburbs will tour swing states nationwide: Ohio, Nevada, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and the Chicago native’s home state of Illinois, where President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat is in a toss-up zone to go red. Wimsatt’s goal is to organize local teams to join a new voter-mobilization initiative called the 12-Week Plan—a program designed to engage progressive voters in electoral organizing in the months before the midterm election.

To support Upski’s many talents, we will be partnering with local voter education and registration organizations, and local musicians and graphic artists to create a distinct and multi-layered event, emphasizing the importance literacy, education, civic engagement, art, music and culture coming together through social action.

I truly appreciate the hell out of the young, up-and-coming artist Bryant Stewart. This song pays a Hell of a lot of homage to RockWell Knuckles who is a older dope artist from North City St. Louis. I couldn’t think of any other artist than Bryant who can spit about/honor another great artist. Enough from me….. just check out this sh*t:

The Monarchs always try to bring something new to the table with our events. Well this upcoming one might be the one you don’t wanna miss! We present to you … SKATE PARTY! lol extra regular title but we felt no need to got all out with the title. If ya don’t skate (like me) come out and have a good time anyways (niccas dance at skate rinks everyday b) In the mean time I’m going to learn how to roll with Thee Skipper for the next 3 weeks.
